The St. Lawrence County Cancer Fund has once again awarded Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center’s Richard E. Winter Cancer Center with a generous grant of $10,000. The grant represents a portion of the proceeds from the most recent Edward I. Moses Walk/Run for Life, which is held each spring.
For many years, the Cancer Fund has awarded Claxton-Hepburn with generous grants that are used for cancer prevention, education, free screenings, outreach, and treatment. During the past three years, the grant funds have been used to provide 700 free colonoscopies to uninsured individuals. This year’s grant will be used to fund 10 free colonoscopies and 40 free lung cancer screenings using low-dose CT scanning.
Shown in the photo accepting the donation from St. Lawrence County Cancer Fund member Barb Spadaccini (second from the left) is Melody Rishe, Director of the Richard E. Winter Cancer Center, Kay Zimmer, and Kristine Hooper. For more information about the free colon and lung cancer screenings, contact us at 713-5251.
